Overview
Faraja Cancer Support Trust, founded in 2010, is a trusted sanctuary for individuals and families affected by cancer. “Faraja,” meaning comfort in Kiswahili, is dedicated to offering a holistic range of free, non-medical support services through five core pillars: Information, Complementary Therapies, Support Groups, Childhood Cancer Programmes (Crafts for Cure), and the Faraja Medical Support Fund. The new website was designed to reflect Faraja’s compassionate mission,making it easier for patients, caregivers, and donors to access information, register for support services, and contribute to ongoing initiatives.
Objectives
The website was built to be modern and user-friendly, aligning with Faraja’s mission. It showcases all five pillars of support in an accessible and engaging layout, integrates online donations and volunteer sign-ups, and is optimized for mobile use while allowing the Faraja team to easily update content.
Key Decisions
Next.js: Chosen for building a fast, secure, and highly responsive website, enabling full UX freedom and short page load times while ensuring safe handling of donations and M-Pesa transactions. Sanity CMS: Implemented for flexible, API-based content management, allowing Faraja to define custom content models and manage all website content efficiently. Bootstrap & Responsive Design: Used to create a visually consistent, accessible, and mobile-friendly interface across devices. Donation Integration: Developed secure online giving flows for local and international donors.

The project followed a phased rollout, starting with information architecture and content organization around Faraja’s five pillars. The design phase emphasized visual comfort and emotional connection, while the development phase focused on accessibility, donation flow, and performance optimization.
